Cromer Crematorium’s new site manager is a familiar face

The new site manager of Cromer Crematorium is returning to where he began his career in the industry as a part-time crematorium assistant in December 2017.

Rodney Clark-Ward said he is delighted to return to lead the team in continuing to provide exceptional care to local communities.

Cromer Crematorium is part of Westerleigh Group, the UK’s largest owner and operator of crematoria and cemeteries, with 36 sites in England, Scotland and Wales, all set within beautifully-landscaped gardens of remembrance which provide pleasant, peaceful places for people to visit and reflect.

Rodney said: “As a part-time crematorium assistant back in 2017, I looked after the grounds, chapel and the cremation side.

“I found this very rewarding and, after a couple of years, was asked to consider working at the site full-time, an offer I was delighted to accept.

“The opportunity then arose to work at other Westerleigh Group crematoria across the region, which provided me with an invaluable insight into how other sites work.

“As a result, I was able to bring new ideas back to Cromer and, likewise, the other way round, showing other sites the ways that we did things, and they took some of our ideas on board.”

Rodney hails from a hospitality background, having previously worked in cafes and bars, and owned a hotel with his family.

He added: “I’m very grateful that I have the support of Westerleigh Group in being able to continue my work in the communities of Cromer and Aylsham as an on-call firefighter with Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service.

“I’m also a town councillor in Aylsham.

“As site manager at Cromer Crematorium, I am keen to help visitors to the site and colleagues in any way I can, ensuring we provide exceptional levels of care.”
